Since 1949

Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad started activities somewhere in 1948 and registered on 9th July, 1949 as a Non-Government Organisation (NGO) under Societies Registration Act 1860 (Reg. No.– S-385/ 1949-50) with Registrar of Joint Staff Companies, Delhi. Our first convention was organized in 1948 at Ambala. Prof Om Prakash Bahal was our first National President, and Sri Keshav Deo Verma was the first National General Secretary. ABVP is neither a Trade Union nor a branch or wing of a political party. It is an independent social organization with focus on education. ABVP aims to achieve its objective by bringing about positive and meaningful changes in education and in the mind and thoughts of educational fraternity like students, teacher and society. We believe that students are not tomorrow’s, but today’s citizens. Hence they can bring about required transformation in social structure of the country.

In a brief period of 72 years since its inception in 1948, ABVP has attained the glory of becoming the largest student organization of the world. The focal area of its activity is college & university campus and its direct concern is students. However, ABVP is always aware of its broader responsibilities as a social organization. In order to perform its duties in peripheral areas, which are vital to its general objective of national re-construction, it has many forum and platforms adding new dimension to ABVP. To name a few:

Student for Development (SFD) (Vikasarth Vidyarthi) works to analyse and examine the un-pragmatic model of economic development that is in force, since colonial period to this current era of globalisation. SFD is constantly working to evlove and formulate an Indo-centric model of economic development.

World Organisation of Students and Youth (WOSY) formed in 1985 with a world convention of 11000 youth from across the globe, it works with a high notion of “Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam” which means “the whole world is a family”
Think India is another organizational dimension that works in intellectual field. This is a novel initiative of ABVP that organizes young intellectuals of the country and inculcates in them the precious ideal and attitude of “Nation First”

Students’ Experience in Interstate Living (SEIL) is a dimension of ABVP that seeks to integrate the Youth of the North East with the society of rest of the Bharat.

Yuva Vikas Kendra (YVK) is another dimension of ABVP focused specially on North Eastern states and
is involved in skill development of north-eastern youth in its center based in Guwahati.
